  • Plaza Mayor de Salamanca

    The Plaza Mayor in Salamanca, Spain is a large plaza located in the center of Salamanca, used as a public square. It was built in the traditional Spanish baroque style and is a popular gathering area. It is lined by restaurants, ice cream parlors, tourist shops, jewelry stores and a pharmachy along its perimeter except in front of the city hall. It is considered the heart of Salamanca and is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful plazas in Spain. 

  • Río Tormes

    The Tormes is a Spanish river, that starts in Prado Tormejón, in the mountain range of Gredos, Navarredonda de Gredos, province of Ávila. It crosses the provinces of Avila and Salamanca, ending at the Duero river, at a place known locally as Ambasaguas, after 284 kilometres (176 mi). This river is not able to provide the water supply to the population during summer and for this reason, the dam of Santa Teresa  was constructed in 1960, with a capacity of 496 million cubic metres to regulate and assure the water supply in summer, as well as to moderate high flows in winter. Also it has the dam of Villagonzalo and the Almendra Dam Almendra Dam, near to where it joins the Duero.

    The Major Bridge of the Tormes, more known as Roman Bridge of Salamanca is a Roman bridge that crosses the river Tormes at a height of Salamanca.? It has been named traditionally like major puente and as principal puente that gives his access to the southern part of the city. The bridge appears in the 21st century as fruit of several restorations, one of the catastrophes that more affected him was San Policarpo's flood (night of January 26) of the year 1626. Until beginning of the 20th century it does not lose the condition of the only step of access to the city, and even during a decade, until 1973, he continued supporting the heavy traffic. There was declared Historical Artistic Monument on June 3, 1931, and Well of Interest Culturaldesde the year 1998. The importance of the bridge like symbol of the city.

    Andrés García's work of Allotments presents a nearest space to the court of a royal palace that to the cloister of a religious building. The first two bodies divide for semicolumns of compound order, with gallery of arches in the ground floor and balconies crowned for óculos in the first one, to which one accedes from the street and the church. In the third floor balconies between flat pilasters. The principal plant of the cloister is decorated by 28 linens, narrating the life of San Ignacio from the battle of Pamplona up to his death, entrusted by Company Jesus' to the Neapolitan Sebastiano Conca.

  • Astronauta

    The astronaut, work of the stone-cutter Michael Romero, is a part of an addition done to the front of the cathedral in the year of 1992, when there began a necessary process of restoration, directed by the architect Jerónimo García of Allotments. The restoration was a part of a temporary exhibition that was carried out in the same cathedral, and that went for name " the ages of the man ". The design tried to follow the aesthetics of the decoration of the cathedral, but including motives that had, at least, a wink of contemporaneousness.

  • Patio de las Escuelas

    The Court of Schools is the name of the small square that is opened in front of the front plateresca of the building of the Major Schools of the University in Salamanca. The square was constructed between 1609 and 1611, according to royal authorization of Philip III and of agreement with the project presented by Juan Gallo de Andrada, allowing a better vision of the monuments. It is a quadrangular square where there are opened the fronts of the historical Buildings of the University: that of Major Schools, that of Minor Schools and the Hospital of the Study. Other buildings of the square are the House of the Doctors of the Queen and the House of the Cats. In his center there is a Monk's statue Luis de León, Nicasio Sevilla's work, raised in 1869 by subscription popular and inspired by Aristotle de la Escuela's figure of Athens of Rafael. In the walls of this court still they can turn the identical ones that, with a flesh-colored Victor, were celebrating the doctorate of the students.
